Native American Heritage Month

National Native American Heritage Month Recommended Programs

November is Native American Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the rich cultures, accomplishments, and contributions of Indigenous communities. This observance began as "American Indian Week" in 1986, proclaimed by President Reagan, and has since evolved into a month-long celebration. WGVU Public Media invites you to join us in honoring Indigenous voices, stories, and perspectives, by exploring public media programs that highlight the diverse experiences of Native Americans and Alaskan Natives.

Please Note: Access to PBS Passport will be required to watch some of these programs. PBS Passport is available to Sustaining Members who contribute at least $5 per month (or $60+ annually) to WGVU

WGVU Original Programs

Shaping Narratives

Built from the ground up, on the values of inclusion, community, and equity. Our host/ producers are leaders of color in West Michigan who designed their programs with their communities and for their communities.

Shaping Narratives is more than broadcast content. We have wedded the production process to community engagement. Each of our participants is simultaneously developing a show, a local affinity group, and a social media following oriented toward addressing issues they are passionate about.

Mutually Inclusive

A WGVU initiative in partnership with the W.K. Kellogg Foundation using on-air programs and community events to explore issues of inclusion and equity through a unique lens.
