Pedal for Progress: Muskegon Lake’s Comeback Ride

Date, Time & Location

Date: Saturday, September 27, 2025
Time: 12:00 – 1:30 PM
Location: Begins and ends at the Lakeshore Museum Center, Muskegon

Description

Join us for a leisurely 7-mile community bike ride along Muskegon Lake and learn about its remarkable environmental restoration. The route will begin at the Lakeshore Museum, head west on the Lakeshore Trail to Lakeside Emporium, and then return. Along the way, historians from the Muskegon Museum of History and Science, water quality experts from Freshwater Future, and local Black anglers will share stories about the lake’s history, recovery, and removal from the Great Lakes’ “Areas of Concern” list.

Participants will enjoy light refreshments, a trail mix stop from Lakeside Emporium, and conversation prompts provided by Curiosity Cards. The pace is relaxed and family-friendly. Helmets encouraged; registration required and space is limited.

This program is the second in a three-part series presented in partnership with the Muskegon Area District Library, Hackley Public Library, White Lake Community Library, and WGVU, titled Community Conversations: Shared Waters.
