Grand Haven Schools Extends Food Program
GRAND HAVEN, MI – Grand Haven Area Public Schools (GHAPS) and local community partners will be
providing food to all students 18 years old and under while the schools are closed through Spring Break.
“We know this has continues to be a significant concern for everyone,” says GHAPS Superintendent Andrew Ingall. “We’ve been hard at work gathering necessary resources, packing meals and providing them to students. In just the first two weeks, we have delivered nearly 20,000 breakfasts and lunches combined.”
Thanks to the flexibility of the State of Michigan, GHAPS is able to provide breakfast and lunch to anyone under 18 years old – not just those who qualify for free or reduced lunch. Families can pick up a school week’s worth of meals on Monday, March 30 and Monday, April 6.
Pick-up times are 10 am – 2 pm and 4 – 7 pm. Locations are Ferry Elementary, Lake Hills Elementary, Robinson Elementary and River Haven Village. (Please note: pick-ups will no longer occur at Hope Church.)
Families without transportation can call 850-5040 or email food@ghaps.org to arrange delivery.
Love in Action, which provides weekend food to elementary school children through their Backpack Blessings program, will have weekend supplemental food available for pick-up at these locations during the designated pick-up times, too.
Families who need additional food support should contact Love in Action at 846-2701 for help accessing local food pantries.
The following donation centers are collecting non-perishable goods for those in need: Tri-Cities Family YMCA, D&W Fresh Market, Love in Action, All Shores Wesleyan Church and Grand Haven City Hall.
Grand Haven Area Public Schools is a district of distinction for students in preschool through 12th grade. With a goal of providing exceptional educational experiences, GHAPS is committed to success for all students and strives to provide exemplary programs and opportunities to meet the diverse needs of students.
