May 6, 2013 | AP Grand Valley State University in western Michigan is widening its footprint in southeastern Michigan with the opening of a downtown Detroit complex to help manage the operations of charter schools and other education and business programs.
Grand Valley State holds a ceremony Wednesday to mark the opening of its center, located next to the Detroit Athletic Club.
The Grand Valley State University Detroit Center will house classrooms for the Grand Valley Charter School Office and its education college, as well as offices of its small business outreach center.
The Allendale-based university manages 52 charter schools in Michigan, and University Vice President Matt McLogan tells The Detroit News (http://bit.ly/13WzyIi) that will rise to 61 in the fall. Thirty-one of the charter schools are in metropolitan Detroit.
