Metro Detroit talks mass transit, but so far, more talk than action

May 17, 2013 | WGVU

In December, when the legislature passed the Regional Transit Authority (RTA) for Southeast Michigan, most people thought the struggle to improve mass transit was over.

But Detroit remains the last metro area without a regional bus and train system. And the RTA is only the legal document that allows plans to be drawn up.  The RTA has no money, and lacks public support to spend money.

Today and tomorrow, the University of Detroit is holding a workshop for people trying to create a social movement toward transit.  Michigan Now’s Chris McCarus caught up with one of the organizers, Kevin McClogan, for a chat.
