Food bank study on hunger "disturbing"
Grand Rapids MI  August 18, 2014  |  AP  A new study on hunger is proving to be a real eye-opener. It shows about 493,000 people in West Michigan and the Upper Peninsula turn to the Feeding America West Michigan food bank each year. Today on WGVU Midday West Michigan, we talk with Feeding America Communications Specialist Andrew Steiner for details. Steiner calls the situation “disturbing.”

In The Tradition brings Detroit jazz to Grand Rapids

Rick Braun and Alexander Zonjic are headlining with west Michigan artists Grand Rapids Jazz Orchestra, Cooper Hay VanLente, Evidence and Edye Evans Hyde also hitting the stage at Rosa Parks Circle. In The Tradition is a Detroit group performing Saturday at 5pm Here's a feature interview with co-founder Olujimi Tafataona.

New enhanced 911 system could be a life saver

Teenage Ninja Turtles and six other movies opening in theaters
  August 8, 2014  |  WGVU  Seven movies opening today in west Michigan theaters, including a live action Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles, a Step Up dance sequel, a tornado thriller Into The Storm and The Hundred Foot Journey starring Helen Mirren. There's also three limited releases including James Cameron's Deep Sea Challenge. Jenny Garone from Celebration Cinema breaks it down.

Fiery Blues Rocker Believes Music Is The Medicine
  August 8, 2014  |  WGVU   Anthony Gomes is a fiery blues rock guitarist who was raised in Canada but now makes St. Louis, Missouri his home. Gomes studied the blues in Chicago with genuine masters like Magic Slim and the Teardrops. The musician is also the founder of Music Is The Medicine. The organization brings together a diverse group of artists donating their talents to impact positive change in local communities. They’ve provided instruments and lessons to autistic children and helped returning veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afganistan. Antony Gomes is appearing at The Intersection on Saturday August 9th in downtown Grand Rapids. Doors open at 7pm.
