Love your station. Keep the old hits a commin'. Listen through the internet in Chicago's far west suburbs. I love how you tell what is currently playing on your website. A lot of the songs you play I don't recognize so being able to know what is being played is great. Found the station looking for programing on your FM counterpart.

Marty, 2/2/12

Yesss!! Grand Funk Railroad!! Thanks! Need more Todd Rundgren too please. Y'all are the best station in the country! Keep up the great work & please stay on AM. We need the authentic vibe for all this magic.

Todd, 1/29/12

Great to hear the local oldies!!Grandville Class of 1971 - Listening from Jefferson City,, MO

Dennis, 1/23/12

You have a new listener in Alabama. Great playlists with all my favorites plus some I don't remember. It's all good!

Jerry, 1/4/12

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all ! Thanks for a great year.

Reggie, 12/30/11

Just heard Johnny Tilotson " Why Do I Love You So ". Wow!! It's been years ! How about "Poetry in Motion" ,please ? Thanks and keep rockin'. Merry Christmas to all !

Reggie, 12/22/11

Bob Mason keeps our shop rocking all day long. There is no better radio station in West Michigan.

Zachary, 12/20/11

Thanks for your attention to all of that great garage rock from the furniture city. Keep up the good work!

Blake, 12/19/11

At last two Barbara streisands in two days ! Watch out The GREEDY oLD Plutocrats will be taking away your funding ?

Richard, 12/18/11

Love listening to your station through internet!! Have a friend in Holland, MI who was in the band "The Aardvarks"!! Thanks for having this station available!!

Nathan, 12/12/11

LOVE LOVE LOVE this station. On AM sounds just like it must have when the songs were originally released and on the radio. How do I get a bumper sticker for my car? I Wanna spread the word! Even though I could use more fifties rockers like Holly, Valens, Cochran, Lewis, L. Richard, and Elvis played more often, I like the mix with the teen idols, flower power, standards and novelty songs. Love Bailey in the morning and everything about this station. Only change I'd make would be to scrap "car talk". That takes up an hour of time that could be rockin real oldies!

B. David, 12/05/11

Hello. We love the program Across the Pond! One of our favorite bands from across the pond from this genre/ period is The Strawbs. Their 1973 album "Bursting at the Seams" reached #2 on the UK album charts. Their single "Lay Down" reached #12 on the UK singles charts. How pleased we'd be to hear one of their songs (this song) played on your program!

John, 11/19/11

I love this station. My only request would be that the dj (can't remember his name )would do less talking (trivia )and play more of the good music. You guys are great.

Jack, 11/17/11

From vestal, upstate ny, great oldies ! As good as satellite!

John, 11/16/11

It's great that people are paying attention and realizing what a great station this is. I love that it is safe for kids too and no explanations are needed for racy jokes. Our family gets an education on original rock-n-roll that shaped our history, and we all have fun.

Karen, 11/14/11

Len,after 98.7 did a program change, I thought we were doomed to be non-oldies burg. Thank heavens for WGVU 1480.. Bill B can you find "on top of a pizza" for play???

Rich, 11/10/11

OMG SO AWESOME!!!!!!! (and Im only 38!!!) Everyone can let the kids listen!!! This is the only station my kids can tune into!!! THANKS!!

Diana, 11/10/11

Love this station, hope you will play a variety of Oldie Christmas tunes sometime. Love the DJs and their knowledge of the the artists. Looking forward to more great things from this station.

Karen, 11/05/11

When I click on the Creston Carshow link on the Homepage it is blank. Is this event old? I'm so glad I found this station! [from GR Press Grand Guide article] I'm the only 'youngster' I know that loves this music. Was so sad when FM stations stopped playing them.

Ash, 10/19/11

Great station from upstate ny got u on my ipad

John, 10/17/11

In response to Richard on 9/28/11. I enjoy the Detroit sounds once in awhile. I also like how your station doesn't just play the songs that people know or like. Hearing a lost "gem" is wonderful. You guys keep on doing just what you're doing and I'm sure you'll stay successful. I found you while cruising through my I Pad Apps store. What a lucky find ! Thanks for all the memories !

Reggie, 10/17/11

I can't get over how good the music sounds on my computer for an A.M. station. Does the station broadcast in A.M. stereo on the radio too? Love the great variety of real oldies songs and artists, as always. Keep up the excellent work. Still listening in New Bedford, Massachusetts.

Bob, 10/12/11

I grew up on these songs while riding with my late Grandma causely in her car

David, 10/7/11

For Bill Bailey, Love your solid work and great voice on WGVU. I particularly like your background stories on Motown & Soul. Do you know the story about major Motown recording executive Lawrence Horn? It is a case of real life imitating art. Horn was the recording executive involved with the smash hit "Shotgun," by W. Michigan native Junior Walker. Of all the Motown classics, it has to have the most violent lyrics "...shoot him 'fore he run now..." In real life, Horn was sentenced to 3 life terms in 1992 for hiring a hitman to murder his ex-wife, his quadriplegic son, and his son's live-in nurse. All to collect insurance money, to which he would be the sole beneficiary. Apparently, Horn's career prospects had dimmed after Motown left their soul in Detroit and opted for LA.

Bruce, 9/28/11

Much to much Detroit Noise. Just stick with the oldies that appeal to nearly every body. Not just one section that love noise !

Richard, 9/28/11

Sept. 4th's Top 40 was a basket case. About half of the songs that were talked about were never played only referred to. I don't know what the station's problems were but I kept waiting to hear certain songs that were promoted as coming up but then they would never actually got played. Can you repeat this week again but actually play the songs? It would have been a fantastic week of music!

Tom, 8/4/11

What a great station. Listen all the time. Keep up the great songs.

Bob, 7/31/11

I listen from Milan, Italy with i pad. Very good station

Roberto, 7/30/11

Hi everyone. Sorry to say that I have had to relocate to South Florida for a job, but I have taken you with me. And, I am converting people in my new office to the way music should be heard and appreciated. I may have moved, but you will always be in my heart and in my computer. Keep playing that good ol' rock-n-roll.

Doug, 7/22/11

Have listened to your station the past 2 nights at 850AM down here in South Bend In on a portable GE Superadio. The signal was very good after about 10:00 pm. Listen most of the time on the internet. The best music & the most music of any station I have ever heard.

Don, 7/09/11

A former Michigander now living in Ohio, and I listen in my car on my Android smartphone using the TuneIn Radio App ( much better quality than FM). Unfortunately, so many oldies stations are now "Classic Hits" stations, focusing more on the 70s and early 80s, and cutting the playlists down to about 3,000 songs. Thanks for keeping the fun music of the 50s and 60s alive with real DJs.

Tom, 7/07/11

Thanks for the great Top 40 Countdown this past weekend. The July summer of 1969 is one of my favorite teenage memories and the music from that time is etched in my memories as well. Great songs and great times! Thanks again, your station is absolutely wonderful!

Thomas, 7/05/11

What a fantastic surprise to hear the Edwin Hawkin Singers and "Oh Happy Day" I about fell over hearing that after so many years. I love this station and hope to help my kids appreciate this music. Are there any places in town fans of the station get together to listen or dare I say, dance?

Karen, 7/02/11

To much MOTOWN NOISE! How about some Barbara Streisand.

Richard, 6/22/11

I am enjoying "As Usual" right now, and feel overwhelmed with gratitude. It has been so many years........thanks a million. You're the best...AS USUAL.

Connie, 6/14/11

I really like the music played. I listen on 850 as I live in Grand Haven. I've notice a lot of down time for the station lately. Hopefully this can be fixed so there is continuous service.

Bob, 6/9/11

Just discovered your station online yesterday and I have to say I LOVE IT!! It's about time for a real oldies station in GR. I only wish you were on FM so I could hear these oldies in my car in stereo. Here is one suggestion...How about bringing back the Made In Michigan Sunday like what was on a few years ago. Anyway keep up the great job. Play more local stuff. You guys rock!

Gary, 6/5/11

Love the music!!! Get a kick out of recognizing the upcoming song and artist just from hearing the intro. There sure were a lot of great voices back in those years; so much better than the screaming and screeching of today's "singers." And, hey, you can even understand the lyrics! Laugh a lot at Bill Bailey's ad libs, too. -- A regular radio listener,

Kathy L., 5/27/11

Just heard "Twistin' Boogie" by Tom Carter, and the Ramrods. You can play that anytime ! Thanks.

Ron, 5/27/11

Old man,s suggestion Hello Friends, As I click through stations and hit yours on tv. Sometimes I hear a song that brings me a flood of memories that I forgot I had or songs I would never remember even knowning. It took me sometime to figure out that the song and artist are printed on bottom of screen. I have old eyes and old tv not HDTV no cable no dish also. My suggestion please could you make the fonts larger and more pronouced. Thanks for reading this? Walt Bundy - No relations to Ted or Al Keep Rocking friends

Walter, 5/23/11

Over the past few weeks the top 40 flash back on Sunday has featured the years 1970, 1969 and 1968. I was in high school then and the songs have brought back great memories of first girl friends, driver's ed and my first job and plenty others. Thanks for going back in time and recounting those top 40 lists from our area radio stations! This is a great way to listen to the oldies and another positive proof that 1480AM is Grand Rapids best radio station!!

Tom, 5/22/11

Man, Neil Diamond had some awful songs.

demonopie, 5/08/11

You are my kind of Music Station..... Born in 1947 (grins) this brings back lots of memories.

Music Fan, 4/22/11

Sure wish I could hear this in stereo with no static.

Ekim, 4/15/11

Listening to Real Oldies on WGVU while working @ the public library in Milton-Freewater, Oregon. I was a DJ on the other WGVU (at the University of Dubuque) from 1967-72, when the songs you play now as oldies were new hits on our Top 40 chart. Keep up the good work!

Bob, 4/7/11

ITS ENOUGH TO BRING "TEARS" TO OUR EYES !!! THANK YOU THANK YOU !!!!!

???. 3/18/11

WGVU Real oldies 1480/850 AM is the best!!!

???. 3/18/11

I love those old radio's in the picture of our Sarasota listener. Do you know what the story is behind them? They appear to be what I used to use to listen to the songs, that WGVU Real Oldies plays now!

Thomas. 3/18/11

This is the best oldie station in the world

???, 3/12/11

Great signal out here in Grattan! Expect more online listeners I'm pasting your station everywhere!

???, 3/11/11

Wow! Your signal is finally strong enough to receive at our house and in our cars. What did you do, increase your power, or add another antenna?

Alan, 3/4/11

I really do enjoy this station!!!! Is there any chance you could sign up for the Vtech or the Grace Digital Audio I think this would be a great service. Thanks.

Chet, 3/3/11

Been listening to Real Oldies from the start, it's so good to hear a station that doesn't work from the same play list every day.

Gary, 3/3/11

Found you on the internet. Just awesome station.

Rod, 2/24/11

TO: Peter 3/16/10 who was "Listening to you in Schwäbisch Gmünd a Town in Germany. Love it." Is there still the Kaserne there? How about in Neckarsulm? I was there in 1974. Fond memories . . .

???, 2/23/11

Wow "Witchi Ta To" I havent heard that on the radio sine I was at YCE. It is a thrill to hear it played, I LOVE IT keep it up.

Biggs, 2/19/11

Great AM radio!!! So good to hear the classics and to be able to hear songs that i haven't heard in over forty years. Nice to hear B sides and tunes that may not have been in the top ten. You guys are doing a great job in bringing this music back and i so much appreciate what your doing there at WGVU! Please continue bringing us this great variety of music because we certainly are enjoying it!!!! Thanks!

Dan, 2/18/11

I almost fell out of the car when I heard Buzz Clifford's "Moving Day", a great, under-rated, under-played song! Thanks guys. You really dig 'em out for us!

Keith, 2/10/11

Sounds great! Listening from Dayton Ohio. Request: The Little Girl I Once Knew - Beach Boys

Bill, 2/9/11

Do you ever play whole albums? I'd love to hear Tapestry, Carole King, and Sweet Baby James, James Taylor.

Rae, 2/8/11

Love the songs,dj's good also!do you have -teen love by the ramrods,if not I have the 45,I sang w'tom madden we were known as Tommy J and the embassaters. For the last 24 yrs I've been doing Elvis for gr singing telelagrams.

Rich, 2/7/11

I found your station on the TV when my aunt and I vacation at her house near Sturgis. We LOVE LOVE LOVE your station. I'm 58 and she's 90 - so this is our era! It's the best oldies station ever - PLEASE go on forever.

Denise, 2/2/11

You have done an excellent job of expanding your programming on the weekend. However, I was disappointed this past weekend that some of the songs in the West Michigan Top 40 with Bob Mason were not played in order to make to make the program fit into the 3-5 pm timeslot. I actually wanted to hear the #15 song Jingle Jangle by the Archies because I couldn't remember how that song went anymore. I think all the top 40 songs should be played each week even if the program has to run late. Why not promote it "West Michigan Top 40 with Bob Mason 3 to 5 pm Saturday. He won't stop .... until he gets to the top." We're listening to hear those songs that have been lost and forgotten. I feel all the songs on the list each week deserve to be played. Otherwise I'm amazed how this station just keeps getting better.

Tom, 1/30/11

I've been listening fairly regularly, and I feel like I hear some songs
too often--I don't mind if it's something good--but I would happily wait
a LOT longer to Lorne Greene "sing" Ringo. You don't really think that's
anybody's favorite, do you?

Dolly, 1/26/11

I love it! I wish my car received the station better. Luckily our trucks pick it up perfect. Any chance of moving to FM? I just love to hear the Domino's and Statesmen. Keep it up..please.

Deb, 1/25/11

Your station is programed on a lot of radios on my house! Got a 45 year class reunion comming up in August 27 2011.@ English Hills Class of 1966 from Grant High School.I informed the class to listen to your station on the way to the event, and on the way home. They might hear you play songs they might not have heard in a long time. I love you Do-Wop gold on Sat AM. "Lost in the Fifties"

Ron, 1/25/11

Len thanks for doing such a great job, keep the good work.

Randy, 1/24/11

Do you guys have anything by "Lynn & the Invaders" or by "Common People" My friend Lynn was the lead singer and I would like to hear some of her early work

Lee, 1/23/11

The Grand Rapids Top 40 playset on Sunday afternoons is a dream come true! Thanks Bob!

Jason, 1/22/11

Discovered your station during a power outage last Dec. My portable radio's batteries were low so I could only hold AM stations. When I heard your playlist I thought I was back in Calif. in the sixties listening to KFRC! I hadn't tuned into AM since I moved to Kentwood, Mi. in '06. Now I only listen to 1480 because it is so strong here, unusually so for an AM station. The so-called oldies stations on FM like 98.7 or 100.9 are either too weak or just have a playlist that bites! ( I hate NPR that sponsors your station but sometimes you have to put up with some bad to have some good.) American Graffiti forever! I really like the Do-Wop stuff you play, almost a lost music form that needs to be played for the new generations instead of that Rap crap. Too bad you don't have an FM counterpart with a strong local signal, maybe someday. Keep spinning 'em.ole!

Al, 1/21/11

Wow! You guys have really nailed down the Oldie format! Most impressive playlist. Exactly what I always wanted to do on radio. Unfortunately, every station I was ever associated with considered oldies as "not commercial"; unable to deliver. Wish I could get the streaming audio. All I get is the repeating station announcement. Keep up the great work - - I know your listeners will hang on. Can't believe you even have some '30s Nat Cole!

Ron, 1/21/11

Keep playing Stan Freberg and Phil Harris as much as you can. It is so great to hear them again.

Roberta, 1/21/11

I go back to wls in chicago with dick benonde. I live in walker and have a bose radio and get static so I listen on the net. How about some more 50s. THANX.

Thomas, 1/19/11

First discovered your station this past summer at the 26th street cruise. Your oldies sounded great blasting out of the AM radio in my 68 Dart GTS. I have been listening on the internet this evening & you have a fantastic playlist that I love. Some of my favorites are Once in my life by the Righteous Brothers, Do I Love you by the Ronettes, She's a Fool by Leslie Gore & Anyway you want it by the Dave Clark Five. The music sure brings back a lot of great memories.

Don, 1/16/11

After listening to the new Top 40 show locally on Sunday at 3, it was interesting to note that both the Beatles and the Supremes debuted in January, 1964, this week with " I Want to Hold Your Hand" and " Let the Love Lites". When I think of the 1960's locally, my favorite DJ was George "Fine Baby" Arthur on 1340 am on WLAV, what ever happen to him? And to you Len, what ever happen to Larry Lujak and little Tommy Edwards at the big WLS in Chicago? Do you remember their show "Animal Stories"?

Ron, 1/16/11

Hello from New Bedford, Massachusetts. Love the real oldies mix... Not just the big hits, but all the hits. Nothing comes close to WGVU here in Southern New England. Thank God for the internet.

Bob, 1/16/11

Best Oldies Station EVER! I love how you not only play a far broader range of hits than other oldies stations, but also lesser known tunes, and even ones I don't recall ever hearing!

Bob, 1/13/11

excellant play list.......love the local stuff too........only wish u had a stronger signal ,when i drive out in the country.

???, 1/5/11

Real Oldies is like a breath of fresh air. So many memories.Remember "Dog & Suds", A & W, and McDonalds had 10cent burgers. Love it.

Rose, 1/1/11

Because you play more than Top 40 music, you often play things I've never heard before (and was there for the 60s). I really do love old-time rock and roll best.

Marylee, 12/31/10

The Kingtones love the Real Oldies Radio Station and appreciate the playing of local record artists. We made a contribution to help keep the "Oldies but Goodies" coming!

Tim, 12/30/10

love the station

Tim, 12/28/10

You guys are the best. Keep playing those great hits! How about the good ole days at "The Glass Hut"!! Willy burgers! Awesome!!

David, 12/08/10

I am so thankful that your station is on the air! Everything else that can be heard on the airwaves here in West Michigan is so processed, commercialized, and cookie cutter sameness it's pathetic! Keep up the great sounds that you have coming to us! Thanks so very much again!

Tom, 11/28/10

I want to thank you for the description and comments about Hanukkah.

At about 8:35 yesterday morning the news announcer gave a very good description of the holiday and how it is not part of Christmas. Then at about 5:00 PM Len acknowledged the holiday. This is greatly appreciated. Most other news media don't do this.

Rick, Steve's Antique Auto Repair 12/02/10

This format beats boring noodley jazz and stuffy classical music any day. Love the West Michigan garage rock selections, and would like to see them listed as such on the play-list.

Christian 11/11/10

You guys ROCK!! The best music ever made played by the best radio station on the planet. Keep up the great work. One suggestion: Is it possible to have an hour set aside, say at the lunch hour, for instrumentals? The 50's and 60's had so many great instrumental hits that it would be incredible to hear them back to back to back. Thanks again for the music and I will continue to listen.

Doug 11/07/10

Just a note to say we are listening to you guys down here in Coloma , thu the TV on ch. 52

Brian 11/02/10

Just made a pledge to Real Oldies and feel great about it! Great oldies and so much better than the regular clutter on the commercial radio stations. Keep up the great work!

Bob 10/27/10

I am in my 20s and grew up listening to oldies with my dad. I was SO disappointed when the FM oldies station went off the air, but I was so glad to discover this station --- this is way better than any other oldies station I've heard!! I love that you include music all the way back to the 50s... great variety. This music and NPR is the best combination ever, I listen all the time! THANKS!

A first time AM radio listener 10/26/10

I remember hearing this song on my dad's radio station in the car when I was a kid. It was on a country western station.I think it was in the later 60's> Ithink this will make you dig some.Thank you.

James 10/26/10

Ihhave sent you comments before, but I just wanted to tell you again how much I enjoy your music. It is wonderful!!! In fact, I told my kids that I wanted a radio for my bedroom just so I can listen to your station when I get home from work. I especially like the music from the 50s. Thanks again!!!

Roberta 10/26/10

I was just up in Michigan this week and found your oldies station. All I can say is "WOW". I grew up listening to this music living on a farm and listening to it on the tractor radio. Keep up playing the best music ever. A listener from Ohio.

Mike 10/23/10

I love this station and have even told neighbors about it and they have switched.

Andie 10/21/10

I love it - Keep them coming!

Pam 10/21/10

Listening quite often from Illinois. Was a big fan of Len O'Kelly when he did the all night show at REALOLDIES 1690 in Chicago in 2003-2006. Glad to be listening to him again. What an extensive playlist! Love it! - Homer Glen, Illinois

Tom B.10/05/10

I am so thankful that your station is on the air and playing all my favorite oldies from the 50s, 60s and 70s!!! With out a doubt Real Oldies 1480 is the best radio station on the air today. Thanks so very much.

Tom 10/04/10

Hello, I'm one of your many internet listeners. Liam O'Kelly rocks! I grew up in the 60's and really enjoy the British Invasion and soul music from that period. However, your weather and traffic info gets me all mixed up, living several hundred miles away. LOL! Keep up the great programing.

Michael 9/29/10

I absolutely love your music. It is about time someone started playing the oldies. I grew up in the 50s and the old musci is the BEST!!!!

Roberta 9/24/10

I am real impressed by the Real Oldies 1480 radio station. I became a member of WGVSU public radio. Keep up the good work playing all those oldie but goodies.

Ron 8/29/10

I, too, would love some Andy Kim - other than Rock Me Gently. Listening on the West Coast and would love some ol' Michigan classics. Brownsville Station "Rock & Roll Holiday," Wanted "Midnight Hour," Seger "East Side Story," Frost "Mystery Man," Nolan Strong "Mind Over Matter," Funkadelic "I Got A Thing..." Thank You!

Ed 8/21/10

As a British Guy now living in Grand Rapids its interesting hearing the Amercican cover versions of British Artists

Noel 8/21/10

love love love your playlist - in particular, oldies sung or played by the 'not so popular' rendition. Midnight Special - CCC. Yay!

Bell 8/03/10

Len O'Kelly rocks in the afternoon. Gets your requests withing a few songs. Only, did not hear my request for Andy Kim called "How did we ever get this way".

Ron 8/02/10

Since you launched the format last summer, I've had a lot of "get out of here!" moments, when you played something I'd rarely or even never heard over the airwaves before, e.g. When She Wants Good Lovin' by the Chicago Loop, I Lie Awake by New Colony 6, Where Do You Go To My Lovely by Peter Sarstedt, etc.etc. Definitely keep up the good work! I do feel compelled to register a complaint or three. First, I agree that while cutting off a song at the top of the hour is annoying, it is unavoidable most of the time. But please try to avoid making it an instrumental. I know you do play some straight thru but so many still get relegated to that slot, as if to imply if it's instrumental it's not worth hearing all the way thru. Same with DJ yakking thru song intros, which deserve to be heard as much as the rest of the song. Try to allow more time in between songs as well, as there is too much overlap sometimes. Those last 2 items are the things about top 40 radio I always found the most irritating. Also, I know this likely won't change anything, but the word "oldies", as a radio format or musical category, grates on my nerves. It seems to lend itself to stereotypes that have little to do with the quality of the music. Well, all that said, I will definitely keep listening!=

David 7/29/10

I just love your station! I am hearing songs that I have not heard in many years. Thank you so much! I am really happy that you have such a large play list. In the past oldies stations that I listened to seemed to play somebody's favorites to the exclusion of many of the greats. Please continue to play a wide variety of the oldies!

Dale 7/26/10

I am so glad that someone finally realizes that not everyone likes the "current music" - there are a lot of us out there. I think that Len should use the squirrel song every Friday at 5 to kick off the weekend.

Susan 7/23/10

Hey, I just wanna say, listening to this station is great, play oldies 24/7, specially Doo Wop.... i love oldies, Im 19, if i could i would support the station more, but all i can do right now is spread the word about this great station.

Juan 7/21/10

I wish you would play oldies that were "top 40" in their time. A lot of the songs I hear, I never heard before and never want to hear again!

Daniel 7/17/10

Hello, Could you play more hits from the early fifties? And maybe some big band music.

Sharon 7/15/10

I love Real Oldies, and the Viet Nam era stuff this afternoon is such a nostalgia trip for me -- too young to really "get" Viet Nam, but just the age to have my transistor radio glued to my head as many hours a day as I could manage!

Debbie 7/3/10

I just wanted to say a couple of things, I live on the fringe of your area. That's not a bad thing because with all the static I get it reminds me of when I was a young man and listening to the AM radio in my car. It's just like it was in the 60's except you are still on after sunset.

Mark 6/28/10

I like oldies, just not 24/7! The change to the content on 850 am was way overboard when it occured last summer. There is a need for a balanced "public radio station" on the am dial and wgvu is not it. Music from other genres deserves to be played along with talk, news and public affairs. I have not contributed to wgvu am since the format change

Roy 6/27/10

HELLO! MY NAME IS DENNY AND I'M FROM KENT, OHIO. I USED TO BE IN RADIO! MAN, DO I LOVE WHAT YOU DO. I PERSONALLY HAVE OVER 5,000 OLDIES MYSELF!! THANKS FOR WHAT YOU DO... THE PERFECT OLDIES STATION! BY THE WAY, DO YOU HAVE "CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF YOUR LOVE" BY THE DANTES? JUST WONDERIN' THANX!

Dennis 6/18/10

Just pledged $365.00 for an hour of programming. Looking forward to doing so. Your station is great. Have been listening since the beginning. Glad to have oldies back on AM om GR!

Jeff 6/18/10

I love this format. How about some local talent such as the JuJus, pedestrians, or other garage bands. Keep up the good work.

Kim 6/16/10

I really enjoy the mix on your playlist! Keep up the great music!

Max 6/11/10

Heard your station on 850AM tonight no KOA interfering with your signal at all(rare). I like the format as I grew up in the 60's and later DJ'd at a local station doing an oldies show from midnight to 6AM Monday to Friday. Thanks for keeping the oldies going.

Steve 6/7/10

The Temptations/ Selfish Reasons. I can't find the original song on the internet. Do you have this song there? Thank You,and anything by the Isley Brothers.

Linda 6/7/10

Do love the station. The Cool Bobby B Doo Wopp Stop is the best show of the week! Am a bit frustrated over your station going off the air with this cutting out issue you've been experiencing lately. I listen on 850 but this morning has been very frustrating. Hope you can get this problem corrected. It's doing it right now again!!!!

Jim 6/7/10

WGVU AM has the best and most varied oldies play list this side of the Canadian boarder. Please keep it up!

William 6/7/10

What a great way to relax...listening to Real Oldies and playing spider solitare, or online sudoku. I heard a good mix tonight. I still like the early Beatles.

Jeff 5/24/10

Love the music. The only thing I would say is that since you don't have to cram commercials into the program, there is really no need to talk over the songs or play the next song over the previous one. Let the first song end before playing the next please.

Dennis 5/19/10

Please don't play any more Burl Ives. He was a coward who gave up names in the McCarthy hearings.....at least counter him with Pete Seeger, whose career he nearly ruined.

Anonymous 5/19/10

I would like to hear a few more 50s,and maybe sprinkle in a few 40s thanks

Herb 4/28/10

Great station and mix. Any plans to do a Sat. night show with local DJ in the style of say Chronour or Alan Freed or Surf Sam?

Tim 4/14/10

I really enjoy it - especially 60s and 70s (don't remember 50s) haven't found an oldies station since WOKY went country - Thanks!

Paul 4/12/10

I am a regular listener. I was listening Monday evening (12-Apr) around 4:40pm coming home from work and you played a song, the lyrics of which were part German, part Spanish. What was the name of the song, and who was th eartist? I cannot find this information in the playlist, and it's bugging me. Thanks!

Ken 4/12/10

Bob, Pam, The songs are not being played just to be interrupted. They are filling in the time between the last song and the start of the news. I can imigane it's hard to time out each hours songs to the second by WGVU to end right at 1 min. past each hour. It beats "dead air". Guess what, this was done in the 50's-70's too when stations had to "tie in" to the networks to get thier news at the top of each hour. Usually it was a instrumental that was played. This is part of the magic that this station is giving us... kind-of reminds me of those old days... BTY, these guys are very professional !!!

Thomas 4/8/10

Thanks for great old songs.

Mike 4/8/10

I love oldies, so I am a little disappointed at "I am woman..." '70's junk. Disco is dead, we killed it, leave it lie. Had to switch to Live 365 internet radio. I'll keep checking in but please review the playlist better.

Dan 4/7/10

I started to listen because I had no choice... my car only has AM (FM is busted). I was listening to NPR when you popped up. Though I still miss NPR, I warmed up to the station. After all, this is my music!

Mario 4/5/10

I concur with Pam's comment from 3/31. I had sent O'kelly an email on this very subject the latter part of '09. The subject: not backtiming the hour and interrupting a tune to join NPR. You guys are professionals. Why have the station sound amatuerish at the top of the hour. After all, 1480 is a pioneering entity and is setting the example.

Bob 4/2/10

Please stop interrupting songs. You start to play a song then switch to the news at the top of the hour. Just don't start the song. It makes you sound less professional and I am familiar with the names of the Djs to know they have been around for a while.

Pam 3/31/10

Love your station, I have been collecting old records for a long time mostly from the era that you play, I have a couple thousand of them, I will not be playing them as often now that I have discovered you--Play on Pilgrim !!!!!!!

Reggie 3/30/10

I enjoy your station and reviewing your play list. Is there any way to add the year of the song to the play list?

Joe 3/30/10

What an awesome station! Great to hear the garage bands from western Michigan like The Aardvarks!! Keep up the good work!

Nathan 3/28/10

You've set the bar so high that it's nice to look down at all the same old commercial stations in the U.S. If they only realized what oldies station were meant to sound like. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!!!!!!!

Tony 3/24/10

I love your station. But wish you guys were on FM because of of static reception. Do you plan to go to FM soon?

Rudy 3/24/10

This is for Bill Bailey. What an awesome ensemble of material in the morning. It is so funny and informational to listen to your anecdotes. Plus, all the music you play to get us early birds going in the morning. Keep up the great work and keep the anecdotes coming.

Doug 3/24/10

A friend told me to listen to 1480am, I did now I'm hooked again. Love the obscure tunes you sneek in there. Also love all the local talent, can't get enuff.

Jerrard 3/21/10

Bless you all for keeping the Oldies going - John forwarded that one of the Aardvarks songs was played on your station you do not know how much that means to some old folks who still listen to the great cuts they did back in the 60's - thank you - also one of the original Aardvarks - Garey Walker - Drummer.

Garey 3/21/10

Best variety of oldies anywhere on the dial in any state of the Union. Listen using iTunes. It would be cool if you could scroll the current song and artist in the information window.

Doug 3/21/10

I found your station while searching the AM band the other day. I was thrilled! I am 56 years old and I love oldies. When WFGR dropped their "all oldies all the time" format last summer, I was very disappointed. Although I don't like everything you play, I am a new fan for sure.

Daniel 3/18/10

Your station reminds me of the early sixties when I'd sit for hours listening to the radio. Now when I turn on the radio it's WGVU. You did it right. Thanks Guys,

Joe 3/18/10

Len,I was on the road today listing to realoldies when The Aardvarks (I'm Higher Then I'm Down ) can on what a surpise. For three minunes I felt like a kid again with so may memories of the group and the great time we had playing are music for our Aardvark fans. Thanks for the great surprise,I did e-mail the guys to check out The Aardvarks on your play list.I'll forward A CD of the Aardvarks Greates Hits for your review.Thank you again for making yesterday a 1965 realoldy. John Carter ( one of the original Aardvarks )

John 3/18/10

Listening to you in Schwäbisch Gmünd a Town in Germany. Love it.

Peter 3/16/10

Love the Station. Would like to hear information on all songs. i.e. name of song, name of performers, written by, year recorded, any interesting anecdotes. Information of that ilk on each song would be great! A little less of the "FOR STRONG SONGS IN A ROW!!" mentality. 1480 has become my station of choice!

Steve 3/12/10

"Casanova Brown" was released in 1962, a minor hit in Detroit. B side was My Guy. Two of the Three Young Sisters were my neighbors. They also were the background singers for Del Shannon on his hit Little Town Flirt.

David 3/12/10

Great job of keeping the music of us baby boomers alive and well. Play more music by our local bands Kingtones Me and Dem Guys etc.

Dave 3/11/10

Saw the billboard on north bound 131 south of GR yesterday and was thrilled. I tuned in and love the mix. It sure fills a missing gap since other oldie station switched over. Thank you! Also, good to hear Len's familiar voice.

Gail 3/11/10

Wow, Kai Winding's "MORE" from the movie "Mondo Cane" which I haven't heard in 30 years and you cut it off in 25 seconds for the news at the top of the hour. RRRRRrrrr!!! PLEASE stop doing that!!! You need to time these songs so they fill the alloted time. You're doing great but why play songs if we can't even hear 1/4 of them?

James 3/11/10

LOVE THIS STATION,WILL BECOME A MEMBER SOON.

James 3/10/10

AWESOME!!!!!! This is the best I've heard since I was a kid!!There are two things missing-1-Tom Wyatt and-2-the old ads that ran on WLS years ago announcing the drag races at US30 Dragway.Remember those?SUNDAY-SUNDAY-SUNDAY.....Those were the times. Thanks for what you're doing.

Ted 3/9/10

Bob you guys are playing the best music in the world. Music back then was fun and innocent Keep up the great job. I listen every chance I get.

Terry 3/9/10

I was bummin' when the FM oldies went off the air - I'm glad you're back!

Thomas 3/9/10

Len~ Thanks for playing "Goin' Down" today for Micky's b'day. That was very cool! Bob~ yes, you got Micky's b'day right. :-)

Pat 3/7/10

When I first hear you I was driving to the grocery store. When I pulled into the store parking lot, I immediately called the station(during your last drive) and gave $100. Loved it right away!

Linda 3/7/10

You guys are really great. I have been listening to this music all my life and you play a larger repertoire then any other oldies station Grand Rapids has had that I have heard. I am in Hawaii now where my husband is stationed and my father told me about your station so I listen to it on the internet. Thanks for being hi-tech also... :)

Amanda 3/7/10

I am so glad that this music is back on the radio and on computer. I have heard songs that have not been played in Grand Rapids Mi / Muskegeon listening areas since the 60s. Keep up the good work.

Perry 3/7/10

I am so glad that this music is back on the radio and on computer. I have heard songs that have not been played in Grand Rapids Mi / Muskegeon listening areas since the 60s. Keep up the good work.

Anonymous 3/5/10

Thank you for some of the best music ever played. Finally a station that is the envy of many major cities in the U.S. Have a GREAT WEEKEND!!!!!! Long live Oldies but Goodies.

Anonymous 3/5/10

Great station! Listen all day at work. I remember back in the mid 60's playing a song over and over again. It was Ava Maria and it was whistled, absolutely loved the whistling. Do you have that one and do you know who did it?

Sue 3/5/10

I will gladly tolerate an occasional Doris Day or Anita Bryant song just to hear "Speedo", "I Wonder Why", "Come Go With Me", "Here I STand", etc. I haven't heard any Louis Jordan, Big Joe Turner, Tiny Bradshaw and those pre-Elvis pioneers of rock. Maybe you can work that in, along with your great educational comments. You guys knock my socks right off my feet! I'm amazed at what I hear! So refreshing to hear the songs that the other oldies stations don't play!

Keith 3/5/10

Hope you are playing some of the "golden" oldies from the l940 & l950 era. Thank you.

Milt 3/4/10

I love your station! Since I discovered it I have not turned the dial. Many of my friends have tuned in as well. We all love the music you play ...and we are in our twenties. Only suggestion I can think of is maybe more surf-rock....

Brandon 3/4/10

What other hit did the Cryan' Shames have? Seems I remember something a little wilder than Could Be We're in Love. Love your station - listen all day and tell everyone about you. Get old songs stuck in my head when I turn it off. Even when I'm NOT listening, you're in my brain!

James 3/4/10

I love this station.........Play it all the time.

Susan 3/3/10

The old oldies station never could find this song.... I hope you have it! I haven't heard it in ages!!! THANKS --- love this station!

Camie 3/3/10

Dear WGVS,

I am a radio enthusiast who enjoys listening for long distance radio signals. On November 12, 2009, at 4:00 AM EST, I had the pleasure of hearing WGVS broadcasting on 850 kilohertz. First, to prove that it was indeed WGVS that was received, I enclose two mp3-files with portions of your program. First, at 04:00 AM, music can be heard under KOA (Denver CO), after a while your station identification: “… WGVU AM Kentwood and WGVS AM Muskegon, a service of Grand Valley State University .. public broadcast center in downtown Grand Rapids. This is Real Oldies 1480 and 850” and NPR news. The second clip, at 4:48 is a promo for the First Real Oldies Fundraiser event. I hope you find it audible. It was fantastic to hear your programme so far away and I really enjoyed the music. I hope the recording is of interest!

Many thanks for this short moment, I really enjoyed it!

I spent a week in November 2009 in a small village in Lapland called Lemmenjoki (Love River!) with a friend, Jim Solatie, (who also heard WGVS) listening to North American AM-stations. My setup consisted of two communication receivers and the antenna system, consisting of long wires hanging on the branches of trees, was designed for DX reception on the AM broadcast band. Because of the long antennas and favourable atmospheric conditions I was able to pick up your signal. The weather was typical early Winter weather with the first snow on the ground. Lemmenjoki, situated some 200 miles North of the Arctic Circle in North Finland, used to be known for gold findings; today the most important industries are tourism and breeding reindeers.

A few words about myself. My working career was in business-to-business marketing but I am now retired. My wife is Kaarina and we have one son, Patrik. We also have a cute Birman Temple cat named Ziina. We live in a suburb of Helsinki called Marjaniemi by the Gulf of Finland.

Your confirmation by e-mail of my reception would be very much appreciated as a memory of this "contact" over the air. Many thanks in advance! I hope this letter has been of interest and hope to hear you again sometime.

With best wishes from Finland,

Hakan 3/01/10

Thanks for bringing back some decent music to this area!! (too bad it isn't on FM in stereo) How about maybe a "Big Band" show, Sun. afts., or something like that?

Mike 2/24/10

There was a GR group in the 60's called the Quests. "Famous" song - If you really want me. Another GR singer from the 60's. Rory-O. Anything by either?

Joe 2/22/10

Great station with a great playlist. Keep up the great choice that we have here in GR. We have all our car and house radio presets on 1480 and listen whenever the radio is on. Thank for making this available to us.

Frank 2/21/10

I dropped XM after Sirius butchered the Decades channels and established almost 100 percent voice tracking. You guys are great with great variety. And unlike, Sirius, you respect your audience!

Andy 2/18/10

Really great!! I'm hearing songs I've never heard before, staying informed, and I don't have to listen to the crap on normal radio stations! David moore you rock!!.

Chad 2/18/10

Thank you so much for bringing "my music" back to Grand Rapids! I listen every day and have told all my friends about your station.

Nancee 2/17/10

I thought I had quite a collection of ecclectic oldies -- the kind no oldies station ever played. However, some of the songs your station plays just stop me in my tracks! So many songs we have almost forgotten brought back to life. Thanks for the great station!

Rachel 2/16/10

Len; You mentioned a while ago Sonny Bono's b'day but you didn't mention that he co-wrote The Searcher's Needles & Pins which you played a couple of hours ago.... FYI

Art 2/16/10

I thought I had quite a collection of ecclectic oldies -- the kind no oldies station ever played. However, some of the songs your station plays just stop me in my tracks! So many songs we have almost forgotten brought back to life. Thanks for the great station!

Rachel 2/16/10

I like the Sunday Morning Standards. But Sun. 10 AM Car Talk was the same program three weeks in a row. I'm glad you're also on DTV 35.4 so I can hear it in "HiFi" and also the songs that are in stereo.

Mark 2/14/10

After listening to the same episode of Car Talk for the fourth consecutive Sunday, I'm hoping you can find the feed (and a new episode) before next Sunday. Otherwise Great Job! Keep it going.

Richard 2/14/10

Love your station - listen all day. Moving to Thailand and assume I'll be able to catch it on the 'Net - hope so! Just heard Little Green Bag. I have it on an old cassette. Great 1 hit wonder!

Jim 2/13/10

PLEASE figure a way to get on the air down in Kalamazoo. Great tunes!

Dan 2/13/10

Just discovered your station. It's nice to know someone in West Michigan is still willing to play "real" oldies and not this so called "classic hits". Keep it up! Great programing and song selction.

Gary 2/13/10

Great job, but again, PLEASE stop saying "Real oldies, 1480 and 850" 500 times an hour! We know who you are - tone it back! I just heard it THREE times in less than 15 seconds! You're driving me NUTS!

James 2/9/10

It is too bad you can't get on FM so the sound would be better.

Roger 2/9/10

One of the best programmed public stations in the U.S. Fantastic musical library and great hosts. Get a hold of Ben Friedman's jingle bank to add some 60's style shotguns and you guys will really rock! It'd be cool to add just a tad of reverb to the mic for that old time sound as well. Still not complaining! Love it!

Benjamin 2/9/10

I wasn't going to write until I read the negative comment about the Sunday morning music. Except for thinking there should be one station that plays only that kind of (American Songbook) playlist, I am thrilled to be able to hear those songs and singers again! I love the Doo Wop Saturday mornings as well. It's all terrific. The only negative? Cutting off the songs for the news at the top of the hour. Play an instrumental if there's not going to be enough time to finish the song! Otherwise; keep it coming and keep it varied. Thanks for trying something different.

Phyllis 2/9/10

Great job! You guys are the best radio station around. Some of the songs you play, I have not heard in a long time. Some I had just forgotten about. PLEASE go on forever!!!

Dan 2/5/10

Listening to you in Mexico. Love it. Keep the spirit of the oldies alive.

Benjamin 2/4/10

your playing lot of good ones

Paul 2/3/10

By far the best oldies station I've ever run across. So many absolute pop gems I'd never heard before.

Tim 2/3/10

ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOUR STATION PLEASE DO NOT CHANGE BRINGS BACK TOO MANY GREAT MEMORIES..........

Kay 2/2/10

At last oldies that aren't repeated over and over. I just learned of your radio station just by chance last week by chance. And very glad I did.

Bill 2/1/10

Who can't love this music? my only wish is that NPR would not be left wing politically to the point of broadcasting pro-communist news articles.

Dan 1/30/10

I am here at work listening to REAL oldies

Nancy 1/26/10

Hey, Len, I have been enjoying the tunes on Real Oldies through the Internet. Wish there was a station in the Chicago area that had the creativity to diversify its playlist like that. Aside from a few select shows, it’s the same old list of stale, predictable songs on every station around here.

Leonardo 1/25/10

So far so good. Still disappointed with backtiming with songs, especially some of the great instrumentals. Add more old country like Hank Sr, Kitty Wells, Red Sovine...

Jack 1/22/10

Please pass along to the great staff at Real Oldies WGVU 1480 that they do a tremendous job playing great songs that have been sadly forgotten by the "main stream" broadcasters. I listen in my office from about 7AM to 1PM (Central Time) everyday on your streaming service. Keep up on the excellent job!

John 1/20/10

I've attached a picture of the dash board of my 1st car, a 1961 Plymouth Belvedere; George Jetson dash board, push-button automatic on the dash, drivers side searchlight. It also had 426 Hemi and a 4 barrel carberator.

My suggestion: Back in the late 50's and into the 60's, radio stations had their lists of the most popular songs ofthe week, WGRD had the Fabulous 50, WLAV and WLS had their Top 40 and so on. Base a show on them. Start at the bottomand work your way up to the #1 selling single in Grand Rapids (or where ever).

Steve 1/15/10

I love Bill Bailey's morning show. I mean, with all the little tidbits and remarks, it is very cool!! It makes the 3 hours go by like nothing. And, I listen to Real Oldies 1480 at the office all day ever since I found you last month. WOW!! It makes the day seem like nothing when I'm listening to all the great music. The DJ's are awesome!!

Doug 1/14/10

It's nothing personal, but please! Bill Bailey talks too much in the mornings. It reminds me of all the trivial bantering I used to hear on the commercial "oldies" stations. More music, please!!

Tim 1/12/10

Just wanted to let you know that we received our t-shirts yesterday and
LOVE them!

Marsha 1/08/10

this stuff was abandoned i month after it was off the top ten.that's why i have such a huge vinyl collection.i just forget how much is buried in those boxes.your format is so deep and entertaining.thanks

William 1/06/10

What a Great site.

Dick 1/04/10

This is awesome. Thanks for bringing oldies back to GR. Will be listening frequently. Love the play list so far - great stuff, not the same old rerun songs.

Rita 1/04/10

Just found this site. love it. i wished i'd been born sooner than 1970. my mom listened to Elvis, some Country. her being from Conklin, she also listened to Del Shannon. i was hooked. i would have to say that my fav artist is Buddy Holly. True Love Ways has to be my favorite love song ever. thanks for the keeping the great songs going.

Carl 12/30/09

Let's see...where to begin. Nice to hear songs that didn't make the top 10. Instead of doing a request, I wonder if you have in your library or will add to it the following: "Do You Want To Dance" by Del Shannon; "Jelly Jungle" by the Lemon Pipers; Anything besides "Incense and Peppermint" by The Strawberry Alarm Clock, "Transfusion" by Nervous Norvus; "The Letter" by The Arbors. Any Grand Rapids area bands. Reading other comments, I agree completely with the issue of backtiming. Also, I know all about segues and other DJ stuff, but PLEASE, try not to yack over song intros/outros. That has annoyed me since I first really started listening to Top 40 in the 60s.

Jack 12/29/09

Thanks for all the great Christmas music we heard last week, that was wonderful!! I look forward to getting more involved and seeing what I can do to help keep your station on the air with this great real oldies format!

Tom 12/29/09

I felt I couldn't complain until I became a member, so I did. Love the station & have 7, yes 7, radios tuned to it and listen 24/7 except that Sunday morning stuff, it's terrible! It surly doesn't fit in with your "50's, 60's & early 70's". The people that liked that 30's stuff are long gone. Thanks for all the other great music, keep it up. Live 1000 ft. from your towers in Kentwood. Boy, does it come in. Even bleeds into other stations & also into my land line, but that's OK. Get to hear you on the phone too.

Barry 12/23/09

Great Oldies, many not heard in years. Unfortunate that the night time wattage is not better. Live in Jenison, very tough to bring in after sunset. Other than that...terrific.

Dave 12/22/09

I love Real Oldies! It's kind of a coin toss some days, between 1480 and my other favorite Classic Rock station; but Real Oldies often wins because I'm an NPR junkie and the ads are shorter and less annoying!

Debbie 12/21/09

better radio likes in 1960s when i was i growing up

Paul 12/16/09

I like the selections. I like the lack of advertisements. I like it when one song doesn't play over the end of another. I like it when the announcer doesn't talk over the music

Frank 12/16/09

All you guys play the music, seasonal or not, it's all good.

Dick 12/14/09

wow, the Fredric!! I remember them! How about The SoulBenders too?! Joe Banana and His Bunch were another local band. Good stuff! Thanks!

Tom 12/10/09

I was in my car on the way home this afternoon looking for some weather information when I found your station. I was delighted by the music that I heard and your station is set on my car radio dial. Thank you for bringing oldies back to Grand Rapids radio!

Tom 12/09/09

Thank you. We had a good time. I thought it was a great evening. You handled everything perfectly and it looked as though all of our guests were having fun!

Bill 12/07/09

Oh boy oh boy oh boy!

Quentin 12/04/09

Hello: Lorraine and I would like to thank the station for last night's "Real Oldies" event. We had a great time and are planning to attend next if it is reprised.

Best regards,

Quentin 12/04/09

To whom it may concern:

Just heard about the station via WGVU's HD over-the-air broadcast. Glad to hear music on the AM dial again. (I am 27 and have vague memories of music on AM... I think 104.5 FM had an AM repeater for people who still had AM radios in their vehicles)

I haven't been listening that long, but I've heard some "forgotten" oldies and hope that trend continues. As wonderful as the big hits are, it's always extra-special to hear that forgotten b-side or smaller hit. While living abroad some years ago I listened to former Canadian oldies station CHUM on the internet and heard some real gems... some tunes that never made it to CD, I could still hear faint crackles.

Keep it up!

Aaron 12/04/09

OMG!!! how long has it been since I have heard that song!!! What year was it??? You people continue to amaze me on a daily basis. Keep up the good work. We're listening !!!!!

Gary 12/04/09

I love your radio station so much, but would love to hear some more obscure Beatles songs that aren't so commercail. Thank you and keep it up. You have the best station in town!

Gillian 12/03/09

I just discovered this station from a link on a radio message board and it's great, i'm in my mid twenties and I love 60's, 70's and even some 80's music.

Adam 12/02/09

I was listening to 1480 a couple days ago, in the car, and heard a Smothers Brothers skit that was too funny. I was alone in the car and actually laughing out loud. I love your station!

Kay 11/23/09

PLAY MORE OLD COUNTRY MUSIC. ALONG WITH THE GREAT OLDIES THANKS

Tom 11/20/09

I understand what you're trying to accomplish at 1480, I applaud the
effort. One of the most irritating programming errors is the lack of use
of back timing. Being the first oldies format on an NPR Radio station,
WGVU should be the trailblazer, a effort which other stations pattern
themselves after. Coming up on the hour and NPR news and starting a tune
which is faded a few seconds into play is amateurish. You guys know back
in the glory days of radio, both AM/FM, you took pride back timing a
song set into the top of the hour, whether it be national or local
news. And I assume having nearly 5000 songs in the rotation, we won't
hear the same songs over and over and over and over. Although I have
heard "aint that a shame" a few more times than should be. Bit hey, what
do I know.

Bob 11/20/09

I was very happy when I heard about this station! I love the music and Len I was happy to hear your voice again.

All of you do a great job, keep up the good work! Does anyone know what happened to Bruce Parrott?

Sandy 11/20/09

It is so good to be able to listen to oldies again.

And also good to hear Len O'Kelly.

Sandy 11/19/09

The best era for music!

Anonymous 11/19/09

Hi there want to say your station wgvu OUT BEATS any radio station we have here in Kansas City Missouri! We dont have any oldies radio stations here in KC at all If you can believe that!? The only thing i do is search online for online streaming oldies radio stations out there in the world!. Im glad i ran across WGVU by Facebook and I became a fan. Im real happy that you have streaming live on your website You have a sure fan and a listener from Kansas City Missouri.. I would give anything if we had a radio station like WVGU here in Kansas City Missouri.. Your fan

Michael 11/16/09

So glad this station is on the air! I just wish there were lower cost options for supporting the station. If I could give more, I would. I can't do $75. Keep up the good work, tho. Love listening.

Anonymous 11/13/09

Heard WGVU on 1480 AM on 6 October in Scotland (UK) when on DXpedition. Great to hear real music, not just sports or talk on AM!! Now listening back home in Reading, west of London online..

Alan 11/11/09

Dear friends at Realoldies 1480,

Greetings from Maxmo, Finland! My name is Roger Granholm and I send this letter to you because I was able to listen to your station program here in Finland on mediumwave 1480 kHz with my special equipment.

I am 55 years old, married and have a son Daniel and a daughter Pernilla. I am a farmer. My wife Ruth is working at a local fish industry . Maxmo is a small municipal with 1000 inhabitants. It is situated on the west coast in the middle of Finland, more than 500 km north of the southern coast and Helsinki, the capital of Finland.

Since 1997 my main hobby has been listening to foreign radio stations. As you may know this hobby is called DX-listening. Since the beginning of the 2002 I have concentrated on listening to North-American AM stations. The conditions for listening are quite good were I live. I have possible to have longwire antennas in the wood which are ideal for my listening purposes. I have an own homepage on the web http://www.netikka.net/roger.granholm with photos of my self and my family. From there you also can listen to a short soundclip from Your station identification, I have made a short recording http://www.netikka.net/roger.granholm/WGVU Kentwood MI 1480.mp3 the recording is also enclosed as a mp3-file.

Frequency: 1480 kHz

Date: 8th of November 2009

Time: 1.40-1.50am Eastern Standard Time (The time in Finland 8.40-8.50am )

Time: Some details from your programme

1.42am Your radiostation came up with a nice identification and webcontact "Real Oldies, it́s on the web realoldies1480.com" ( please listen to the soundclip http://www.netikka.net/roger.granholm/WGVU Kentwood MI 1480.mp3 )

Thank you for your program, I wish I could have listened to it much longer, but unfortunately it is very common that a far away AM station can be heard only a short time before it fades out. It was great to catch your signal here in Finland. I suppose you are interested in my equipment. My receiver is a Japanese made Icom R75 communications receiver with an inbuilt digital frequency computer. When I heard your station my antenna was a 700 meter long copper wire which was directed to the west coast of North-America, I have 3 different antennas in the wood pointing to 3 different North-American directions. It is very important to have a long antenna to a certain direction when one tries to pick up overseas AM stations.

Thank you very much for reading this letter and your interest to my reception. I would be very pleased if you had time to verify my reception of your station WGVU by sending an answer to me. Such a verification would be a nice remembrance of this contact with your station.
Thank you for your time and once again sorry for me intruding like this.

Roger 11/11/09

I despise real oldies. I want the old 1480 back.
they play crappy music.
used to be good shows, boo! hiss!
I pledged to support WGVU but I'm taking it back.
Yuck.

Meredith 11/10/09

This is the BEST radio station.......... AND Great D.J's...........

Marene 11/09/09

Thank goodness you are on I just found out about your station yesterday. I had lost all hope for a radio station that didn't play the same music as every other radio station in the Grand Rapids area. I really missed the old Oldies station that went off the air. Please keep the music fresh. It is not necessary to play the most popular song a group made. Lots of groups had other songs that were great but were rarely played. They were reduced to one or two songs by radio programmers. So glad you are on.

Anonymous 11/09/09

So glad you have brought an oldies station to us. We were bummed when the one on fm disappeared.

(We heard Busted by Ray charles the other day on your station. It is so "relevant" right now - talks about being broke AND having the flu.)

Thanks

Lynne 11/09/09

Luv your show though this wanting money now from the radio is a bit
much...There are ads on your TV shows and rich liberals donate big bucks so why
do U need the little man's money,,,Why not just go out and find more business
sponsors ? and i assume u cant as the conservatives would picket the
liberal business's....til then nice station ,,,,,j

J 11/09/09

super, super job!!! i'm absolutely estatic. finally G.R. has a oldies station that is second to none is the U.S. (when I travel, i'm always searching for a good oldies station and have been envious of other stations playlist and wondered why we couldn't get a greater playlist. (like honey radio in Detroit, and cities like Tampa, Cinncinatti, New York) I would also appreciate the "jingles" you're considering (just like the "Cruisin" albums you can buy for ea. year from 1956 on. Thank you Len & company for a fantastic format that has been long overdue. Tony (Big Bopper) P.S What has become of Mark Roberts and his great insight into the local oldies?

Tony 11/07/09

As a musician for over 50 years,I can appreciate your format, what a diverse variety.
This is what we need in this area & hoping that it has a long life.

Bill 11/06/09

I remember when they banned this song. Too racy. Rhaspsody in the Rain.

As I enjoy DX-ing and listening to AM radio from North America, I am very pleased about having been able to pick up the signal of your station WGVU on 1480 AM here in Norway.

WGVU is not a frequent guest on my radio because the frequency of 1480 AM is usually occupied by other radio stations. Usually I only hear the station WSAR in Massachusetts on 1480 AM at my place. On certain occasions though, the signal of WGVU do make it across the Atlantic to my radio.

I am enclosing a brief MP3 recording of WGVU as received here in Norway last winter. This recording was made on October 24, 2008, at 9.29 PM E.S.T. and includes a reasonably clear (bearing in mind the distance) station identification for National Public Radio and WGVU. Would it be possible for you to listen in to this recording and confirm that I was able to pick up the signal of WGVU here in Norway?

The radio equipment used when receiving your signal was a computer based SDR-IQ communications receiver and an antenna wire which was nearly 800 metres long. Using such a long antenna is a big advantage when it comes to receiving long distance radio signals on AM, but the antenna sure takes a lot of space. .

I am 41 years old and have been listening to foreign radio stations on short- and mediumwave since I was a kid. Now my main interest lies in catching weak signals from radio stations on AM and on the tropical bands on shortwave. Even in the times of the Internet and satellite TV and radio, it is still interesting (and fun!) to see how far away a signal from a radio station with limited power such as WGVU can reach and which radio stations it is possible to hear here in Norway.

Well, I hope you enjoy hearing that the signals of WGVU can sometimes reach as far away as Norway on 1480 AM too. It should imply that your AM transmitter is doing quite well!

Thanks a lot for your help and hope to hear from you again soon.

Arild 11/02/09, Norway

I love Oldies WGVU Keep up the good work

Anonymous 10/30/09

love them!

Francis 10/29/09

You should put up a huge billboard to let everyone know oldies are back. on the side of the highway.

Anonymous 10/29/09

Great job on getting this station going. I was very disappointed when
WFGR changed formats to classic hits, which is available on other local
stations. Thanks for filling the void with "Real Oldies" so I can again
stick with just one station instead of channel surfing !! Thanks.

Paul 10/29/09

This is no ordinary Oldies station you have. You are a breath of fresh air - edgy stuff welcome - album classics welcome too.

Stanley 10/28/09

Been listening to AM 1480. Like it!

Kay 10/27/09

Len O'Kelly aka "Golden Throat," I was thrilled to hear you when I first tuned in! It's great to have another radio choice in the area! I "channel surf" the radio all day long at work. These days there is so little variety on music radio that I have turned to talk radio, but I will be giving this station a good chance. So, Golden Throat, any chance we could extend the era a little further back and put in some '40s? I also like the instrumental songs you include, and if you add more standards and classic country, I will be hooked!

Amanda 10/26/09

it is great!! I love the music from the 50's and 60's

Anonymous 10/26/09

Your station is wonderful. I have told many others about it. Please keep up the same type of music.

Lynette 10/25/09

Your Station is GREAT!!! Please play more local groups from the past. http://www.garagehangover.com/?q=Renegades#comment

Frank 10/22/09

This is a GREAT station. Thanks to you and GVSU for taking the time to put
something on the air that is so enjoyable. I would only ask for someplace on
your website to submit requests [perhaps it's there & I just haven't seen
it]. The new format and playlist availability is fantastic.

Amy 10/21/09

Good job Len on the station. Very glad to hear oldies again.

Roger 10/20/09

I have some Great Music No Station has like I Want To Be With You Tonight by Alabama

Ray 10/19/09

I really enjoy hearing you on the radio every day...and our family is now
listening to this station almost continuously. The music is great, as it brings back memories from when I was a kid. Really enjoy your program - just wanted you to know. Keep up the great work! You are heard in Muskegon! :)

Tom 10/19/09

It is great to hear the music I grew up with & the way it sounded @ that time. Keep up the good sounds.

Keith 10/14/09

Irene 10/13/09

Please keep it up, its the best i ever heard, because you are playing some songs i have never heard before and also on the radio, i"m tellings all my circle of friends about your station, suggestion, people who like pop music generally like the old country od the 50's-60's-70's, maybe you could pick a day or two a week to play them also, because you don't here them either, also maybe you can extend your play list so we have time to get on your sight and find out the name and artist of the song. thank you ever so much

Joe 10/08/09

good hearing old songs again, sounds good

Paul 10/08/09

Love being able to listen while on the computer or just as a radio.

Carolyn 10/07/09

This is the best radio station that I've heard in a long time. I like for the fact that you don't follow an "everyday format" as other stations do (meaning you hear the "same songs" over & over. I thought I new "most" of the oldies but you amaze me & play a lot of songs that I've never heard. Keep it going guys - great job!!!

Dan S. 10/07/09

Hey Len,we wondered where you went. Thanks for getting "oldies" up and running again. Local tunes are great! I still think you guys should do an 'old guys battle of the bands'! We are passing the word about this station! Rock on my friend,Rock on!

Dan G. 10/07/09

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Real Oldies!!!!!!!!!! I CAN NOT THANK YOU ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nancy 10/03/09

I love your station. Grand Rapids has goofy radio! I have not heard most of these songs in ages. I grew up watching American Bandstand in 1958 when I was five years old!

Steve 10/03/09

So great to hear all the forgotten tunes from the 50' and 60's. I'm listening down in K-zoo on 1480.

Dan 10/02/09

sounds good , the ones you dont hear anymore, keep on playing. also like the news and weather reports

Paul 10/02/09

Your station is great! I listen as often as I can. I've heard so many songs that I haven't heard and many that I've never heard before. I've listened to Len and Bob over the years but Bill is a new voice to me. His style reminds me a lot of Bruce Grant years ago and Bill should take this as a most sincere compliment. Keep up the good work and great oldies!!!!

Bob 10/02/09

Great Station. Keep up the great work. Will we hear stereo sound anytime soon in either AM C-Quam Stereo or HD radio stereo? I know this station(1480am)had broadcasted in those formats in the not so distant past. 1480 WMAX-AM Lives again!!

Scott 10/01/09

Welcome back Len,
It’s good to here you & real oldies are back! Our conversation on your last day at FGR seems along time ago. I kept searching the dial and FINALLY! If there’s anything I can do to help, give me a call.

Bruce 9/30/09

It is great to have the oldies back, also the DJ's. We listen to you all
the time.

Dear Real Oldies,

Permit me to fill this comment box all the way up!

I must tell you that I am OVERJOYED that oldies are back. When WFGR casually tossed aside the format that I love, I was bombarded with calls from friends and family that were disgusted! I had a glimmer of hope that 1340 WLAV would make a return since they were simulcasting WBBL (complete with the original PAMS jingles) but my heart was broken again when they became WJRW. One of my co-workers (Bob Mason's uncle-in-law or something) informed me about you guys and it was the best news I'd heard in months.

I'm glad to hear Bob Mason back on the air. I used to love hearing "Bob Mason's Record Vault" on WFGR. It's cool to hear a tale about the song. I spent many Saturday nights listening to Mike Harvey on WODJ for that very reason. It's good to hear from Len too! I used to wake up to his voice every morning on WFGR.

I love the focus on "local oldies." It's great to hear an oldies station that doesn't play The Beatles and The Rolling Stones to death. When I look at the old surveys from WLAV, WGRD and WERX, I notice a much better variety of music than what is heard on the typical oldies format.

Now I will tell you that I'm starting to hear some repeat songs (not that I'm complaining). There are still a bunch I haven't heard yet. Brian Hyland's "The Joker Went Wild" sticks out in my mind in particular. I don't recall hearing anything by The Ventures yet either.

Some songs need to be played on the original 45's too. The original singles seemed to have more "punch" and were designed to sound good on AM radio. I know this has been tossed around a lot since The Beatles were re-mastered, but it's true! The original 45 RPM singles sound better.

Again, THANK YOU ALL for bringing back the oldies.

P.S. Are you folks hiring??? I don't have much of a radio voice, but I have a vast wealth of useless knowledge when it comes to oldies, and maybe I could make a contribution in some way...

Thank you,

Jason from Grandville

Dear Real Oldies,

Thank you thank you thank you! I love it!
I live in the north end of GR and work in Jenison and have a cheesy little radio in my office and can't get WYCE, which I usually listen to. I hate new pop and country so I've usually settled for...something Lite, can't think of the name of it. Wlite? Anyway, at best, it's nearly tolerable.
I love hearing the oldies and love hearing stuff I haven't heard in 40 (or more) years, and in some cases, never! Like I've never heard One Night of Sin, by Elvis. All I heard when I was a kid was the "cleaned up" version, One Night With You.
I'd love to hear Crawfish, by Elvis sometime. I'm at work between 10-ish and 4.
Thanks ever so much!

HELLO GUYS, WE ARE HAPPY TO FIND YOUR NEW OLDIES STATION. WE LOVE IT AND  ARE SPREADING THE WORD. KEEP UP THE GREAT REAL OLDIES. BY THE WAY LEN , WHAT  COLOR IS YOUR 57 CHEVY? OURS IS TROPICAL TURQUOISE/ INDIA IVORY, ORIGINAL .
SEE  YOU  AROUND                         JOHN AND MIRJAM

I was talking to Andy Rent Thursday night at an event he hosted and mentioned my disappointment about the format change at WFGR. He told me about  Len O'Kelly moving to your station and establishing the oldies format. Talking to him this morning (I had won Chucks Friday Five the Hard Way contest), he mentioned that Bill Bailey was joining you too. Great.

I wrote to the press a few weeks ago lamenting the change so I  wrote again
today in follow-up. The text is below. Maybe they'll even  publish it and
send a few more listeners your way.

I've got mixed emotions about listening to you. Wife Kathie and I  tuned
you in at bedtime last night and didn't get to sleep 'till 4:00 am 'cause  we
kept nudging each other as another memory was played. Maybe we'll have to go
back to elevator music (WTRV) at night.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
To the Editor:

A few weeks ago, you published my letter lamenting the elimination  of the
oldies format by a local radio station.  I got several 'phone calls
agreeing with my disappointment and some helpful suggestions as to where I could
still find the oldies format.

Well, fellow geezers, I've just made a major discovery.  Len O'Kelly has
joined WGVU AM radio (1480 / 850) with his fabulous collection  of oldies. In
the  few hours I've listened since my discovery, I've heard  songs that I'd
not heard in 40-50 years and some that I've never heard (such as  one about
birds walking about in their underwear).

I understand that they are the only public radio station in the US  playing
the oldies format 24/7.

Congratulations and thank you to Grand Valley State College and to  WGVU
for serving us who love the music of the 50's, 60's and even 70's.  Keep it up!!
Bill P., Dutton, MI

Hi and thanks for bringing back the real oldies, not the junk they called oldies on the previous station.  I'm spreading the word to everyone.

Al

Wow - songs I have not heard on the radio for many many years (just listening to "Goodbye Columbus" by the Association). Very refreshing! Maybe sometime I will hear "Think Twice" by the Pedestrians. My only regret is that the station is often hard to pick up on my car radio.
