A Service for Grown-ups Who
Care About Children
The primary goal of
WGVU's Ready To Learn service is to use the best
children's programming on television in ways that
help young children enter school ready to learn.
Each weekday WGVU-TV
broadcasts over 8 hours of PBS Kids TV programs
that actively engage children ages 0-8 in learning
skills they need to start school and be successful
learners once in school. Through our Ready To Learn service, which was
created in partnership with the U.S. Department
of Education, WGVU has helped more than 7,500 adults
prepare 87,000 children for academic success,
using a powerful combination of educational programming
and community workshops.

Ready to Learn Workshops
Our trainers meet with
parents, child care providers, teachers, and children
at schools, child care centers, agencies, libraries,
and resource and referral classes to share strategies
for combining WGVU children's programs with related
activities and books. This helps adults extend
the value of what children watch on WGVU and use
TV as a teaching tool.
This strategy is called
the Learning Triangle.
Our community partners
such as area resource and referral agencies, have
helped WGVU-TV train over 7,500 adults who reach
over 87,000 children.
