UNDERWRITING REPRESENTATIVE
WGVU Public Broadcasting
( 2 positions available)

This professional sales position is responsible for selling program sponsorships for WGVU-TV (PBS) and WGVU Radio (NPR) to companies and organizations in West Michigan. The successful candidate will be highly motivated with demonstrated success in sales or non-profit development. If you have superior sales skills, an interest in community, and a commitment to providing great service then this position might be right for you. At least three years of experience in media sales, advertising, fundraising, marketing, or a combination of experience that includes one or more of the above disciplines. College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. Compensation includes base salary plus commission.

STUDENT EMPLOYEE SCHOLARSHIP

The purpose of the WGVU Outstanding Student Employee Scholarship program is to recognize the importance of student employees at the university’s public broadcasting stations, to encourage excellence in the student staff of the broadcast stations and to recognize outstanding efforts on the part of student employees.

Two scholarships for up to one-year full tuition, one for radio and one for television, will be awarded for the 2008-2009 academic year; they must be used at GVSU and are not renewable.  The recipients will be selected on the basis of academic achievement, contribution to the stations, contribution to the student program at the stations and interest in the field of telecommunications.

Scholarship recipients will be required to participant in a wide variety of activities/events for
WGVU.

Scholarship Amount:

Equal to up to one year’s full tuition at Grand Valley State University, excluding books and lab fees.

Eligibility:

  1. Applicant must be a current full-time student at GVSU and must be a current WGVU employee.
  2. Applicant must agree to remain a GVSU student employee at WGVU during the scholarship period and work no less than 15 hours per week during the scholarship period.  WGVU will pay an hourly rate for work hours per arrangement with Production Manager.
  3. Applicant must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or a statement of equivalent achievement.
