Jon said, “I grew up in a very PBS-loving family outside Detroit. Still remember watching the live auctions every year! When I returned to Michigan from LA, I was excited to get as involved as I can with WGVU Public Media in Grand Rapids.”
“Well, that has included a lot of fun and rewarding experiences. I have hosted on-air TV membership drives and auctions; become involved with the WGVU Engage; and the Engage Arts sub-committee which is always interesting and exciting to see how WGVU can give back to the community,” says Jon. For five years, Jon brought news and events from Saugatuck and Douglas to Shelley Irwin’s Morning Show every month on ‘The View From the Dunes’ and this still goes on with a fellow WGVU Engage committee member. But, the most challenging and exciting involvement, says Jon, is with the plans for Michigan Hometown Stories. “The first of these will be on Saugatuck and Douglas and I am working with both the development and TV production teams at WGVU to make this wonderful project a reality. Serving as the liaison to our local community and working with production as we begin to tell this story is a real highlight of my involvement with WGVU. WGVU does so much for all of us and it is a real treat to help with anything that makes our Public Media community richer and more vital in our lives” said Jon.
