JoAnn is a long time financial supporter of public TV and a recent transplant to Southwest Michigan. JoAnn says she was ‘delighted to find a PBS station of the quality of WGVU’ and decided it was time to take it a step further by volunteering her time. “Although I am a short timer, this has been a most rewarding experience sharing time with other supporters and volunteers. It has enriched my retirement,” says JoAnn.
Through her church, JoAnn has been active in her community since her youth. Throughout her professional career she had often heard co-workers, friends, and family say they would volunteer once they retire. According to JoAnn and what she has heard from others is ‘if you take the next step and pursue an opportunity whether it be a one-time event or once a year commitment, you may be pleasantly surprised the time is not burdensome but well spent’. “Not only will you help those in need, who are most appreciative, but you may unknowingly plant the seed for someone else to experience the remarkable power of paying good deeds forward,” says JoAnn.
