OHIO STATE ALUMNI CLUB OF WEST MICHIGAN

As many will know, it’s not always easy being a Buckeye in Michigan - thus The Ohio State Alumni Club of West Michigan enjoys every opportunity it has, to show what a great group of Buckeyes live, work and contribute to life in West Michigan. Our local Alumni Club serves the 1200+ alumni, family and friends that live in West Michigan and who come from as far as Traverse City.
 
The history of our Club’s volunteering for WGVU’s Public Television goes back to the mid 1980’s when the broadcasting was still done in Allendale.  We have continued to volunteer for the Telethons at least once a year and thoroughly enjoy meeting and working with the staff at WGVU, answering phones during the station’s Pledge Drives and watching the wonderful shows that WGVU broadcasts during our 4 hour shifts.  Our Club is very proud of the $15,740.00 in Pledges we received during ONE evening in December, 2008!  
 
Club Members have also volunteered in several other community service projects including Habitat for Humanity; the Annual Blood Drive Competition between the Alumni Clubs of Michigan State, Notre Dame and the University of Michigan; monetary & food donations to the local Feeding America Food Bank; volunteering at a Mobile Food Pantry; our annual ABCD clothing donations to Mel Trotter Ministries (Accepting Buckeye Clothing to Donate); and contributing to Operation Overdrive which sends care packages to U.S. Military Personnel stationed overseas!
 
Most recently, we enjoyed a partnership with Ferris State University, Grand Rapids Community College, Grand Valley University and The Kendall College of Art and Design as we were the lead sponsor of the January, 2011 Diversity Event entitled, THEM: Images of Separation at Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids.
 
A day of “Buckeye Camaraderie” is topped by great prizes and a silent auction of Buckeye Memorabilia. Proceeds are contributed to our Endowed Scholarship Fund - which allows us to provide scholarships to local students for their freshman year at OSU.
