Amanda Reader started working for WGVU in November 2000 as the Administrative Assistant to the General Manager, Michael Walenta. She transitioned into her current dual role in the fall of 2010 as Development and Volunteer Coordinator along with acting as an Administrative Assistant to the General Manager.
Amanda coordinates volunteers for WGVU television and radio membership drives; special events such as KidsDay at the Zoo and wine events; monthly letter stuffing, advance screenings and anything else that comes up. “I have really loved getting to know our volunteers and recruiting new ones. It has been a pleasure to work with so many people who love and support what we do at WGVU by giving of their time,” says Amanda.
WGVU received a grant from the Grand Rapids Community Foundation to collaborate with a team of volunteers, WGVU Member Correspondents. The WGVU Member Correspondents make thank you calls and write thank you notes to you, our members, twice monthly. “I am really excited about this opportunity to show our members how very thankful we are for their support,” says Amanda.
Amanda and Christopher have been married nearly 11 years. They have one daughter, Charlotte, who is 17 months old. Their family also has four furry cats – Hobbes, Calvin, Pixel and Bean – all rescued from the streets of Grand Rapids. In Amanda’s free time she loves to travel – exploring the history of a place and its people. Amanda is thankful to have had the opportunity to explore and enjoy some amazing places like China, Israel, and the Mediterranean. Her next journey will be exploring Gettysburg and Philadelphia. Other things Amanda likes to do are read, go to the theatre, play cards/games, hunt for antique treasures and spend as much time as possible with family and friends.
