An open letter to you, our loyal viewer

Ah, the New Year. Time for transformation, new hope and resolutions. As we all prepare to put aside the holidays for another year and ready ourselves for the coming months, we often take stock of our lives and the changes that we would like to make. There are many changes on the horizon for WGVU, and we’re excited to share them with you.

You’re holding one such change in your hands – our new and improved Showplace program guide. This booklet includes the listings for WGVU HD, Create and MHz Worldview, all three of our television channels. You’ll also find the schedule for WGVU FM 88.5/95.3 and information on our newest addition, WGVU Real Oldies 1480/850. With the longer format, we’re able to include even more features about upcoming events and programs as well. If you’re interested in placing an ad in Showplace, please call 800-442-2771 and ask to speak to our Underwriting Department.

We’ll also be making some tweaks to our programming line-up, based in large part on your comments! Create will again be on 24 hours a day, on WGVU 2 (35.2 or 52.2 on your tuner), while MHz Worldview will still be found on WGVU 3 (35.3/52.3). Schedules will be listed here in Showplace by day – on both channels, the program line-up is the same from week to week. Hopefully, having the listings within easy reach will help you to uncover some new favorites, like International Mystery on MHz Worldview, or inspire you to spend a snowy Saturday holed up with a Create marathon (I recommend warming up on January 16 with an entire day devoted to soup!). Updates to the schedule can always be found on our web site at WGVU.org and also on our Twitter feed, so make sure you’re following WGVU there.

One more major change is happening at WGVU in the New Year, as our television Program Manager, Carrie Corbin, enters retirement. Carrie has been with WGVU since 1980, helping to shape the stations that you depend on. I have been honored to include her among our staff for almost thirty years, and she will be missed by everyone here, and by you, our viewers who have literally watched her best efforts every day. Fair winds and following seas, Carrie.

Although there are a lot of changes happening here at WGVU, two important things are staying the same: you can always count on us for programming that inspires, entertains and keeps you informed, and we will always rely on our members to support that programming. Without you, WGVU wouldn’t be here. We wouldn’t have a reason to be here. Remember that as you’re writing down your resolutions and planning the ways that you’re going to improve your life this year. You’re part of something important to your community – Public Broadcasting. Here’s to 2010.

Signed, Michael T. Walenta
