The Mission of WGVU
WGVU's continued mission is to provide educational, informative, and entertaining programs and events to the West Michigan community as a service of Grand Valley State University.

An open letter to you, our loyal viewer

WGVU always has you in mind, whether it’s scheduling new programs or planning community events for you and your family. None of this would be possible were it not for your financial support which has allowed us to reach outside of our TV and radio studios and into the community where we continue to educate, inform and entertain you. Thank you for your generosity.

February will be a busy month for all of us here at WGVU. In addition to our daily duties of bringing you the best in radio and TV programming, we are involved in a number of events within our communities.

WGVU Engage Diversity is proud to be partners with GVSU’s Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum. As partners, we have a number of celebrations and activities planned for you and your families to enjoy this month, listed below are just a couple. For more information on these and other events visit wgvu.org/engage or gvsu.edu/oma.

Come hear from one of the original Freedom Riders – Diane Nash – as she takes you back in time with her personal account of the ride. Diane will share her story Tuesday, February 28 at the Kirkhof Center from12-1:00 p.m. Her story is also documented on the PBS AMERICAN EXPERIENCE film Freedom Riders which airs on WGVU HD on Tuesday, February 7 at 8:00 p.m.

Get ready to tour the “Freedom Riders” traveling exhibit bus which will be on display at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum the whole month of March. Relive this pivotal time in history as you listen to recorded stories from some of the riders as you view the wreckage left from the bombing.

WGVU Engage Education is in partnership with PNC Bank and On The Border Mexican Grill. One of our education programs is the WGVU Cool Teacher contest in full swing right now. We have received thousands of letters from students and out of these, 12 teachers have been chosen and their classroom honored with a pizza party. It’s not too late for your child to nominate their teacher. You can submit on-line at wgvu.org by clicking the Kids & Family drop box then click Cool Teacher.

They’re at it again! You saw them last month now get ready for the rematch between Calvin and Hope! Catch it live on WGVU-HD, Saturday, February 11 at 3:00 p.m.

Do you have your ticket yet for WGVU’s 23rd annual Great Wine & Food Symposium? Presented by D&W Fresh Market, this is your night of escape from the winter doldrums, Friday, February 24 at 7:30 p.m. For more information and to purchase tickets, call us at 800-442-2771 or visit our website at wgvu.org and click the WGVU Store, special discounts for WGVU members.
